I recently got my first look at a New Era DVD from Bob Chin and I have to say I was very impressed. Porn today is filled with gonzo shooters and pretentious feature makers who are more concerned with the tricks their editors can do than they are with shooting good sex scenes. Bob Chin actually seems to be able to make a feature based on a strong script and good sex scenes. What a novel concept that is these days. Of course now that I've said that, I have to laugh a little. The last movie I saw was a private eye flick (Re-Enter Johnny Wadd) and this movie is another gumshoe effort. This time Lee Stone plays the lead and he delivers his voice over dialog in a monotone cadence that makes me already wish Joel Lawrence were around. Chin doesn't waste much time getting his story started and moving to the first sex scene. We know that the Jade Goddess is a powerful idol that was stolen centuries ago. That's all we need right now because Stone is enjoying a hot day with his secretary.

His acting could use more than a little work and I think that three parts of this might make us really miss guys like Joel Lawrence or Randy Spears. There are a lot of women carrying the action in this movie, but the biggest problem is that Asia Carrera is only around for a single veggie scene. Ava Vincent is up to the task, but it's Nikita Denise who steals the show with the best scenes of the movie. As a feature, this movie gets high marks for good picture quality, a decent story and better than average sex. I'm actually pretty hooked and want to see the next chapter in the Jade Goddess trilogy.
