Juan Curves Review
If you have not seen this film and if for some reason you were to ever speculate whether the porno industry could pay a decent tribute to Broadway, then you would almost resoundingly say no. Well, it was 1978 and skin flicks were in a very different era but it is still with great surprise that I say that “Chorus Call” is an incredibly good tribute to Broadway and naturally it also features fantastic sexual encounters.
A direct and unashamed rip off of the mainstream film “Chorus Line” which features Michael Douglas as a director. In this film, Joey Silvera assumes the role wearing very similar clothes. Kay Parker assumes the role of Mona, legendary star bitch on the comeback trail. A meddling, conniving lead dancer is played by Beth Ann. Darby Loyd Rains plays the clever, assertive agent of Mona. Susaye London is a young, very promising, sweet and beautiful young dancer who everybody seems to both fancy and be jealous of.
To begin with, the opening song blew me away as it actually sounds like a well choreographed chorus line off Broadway. The first time I saw this was in the early days of video, not too long after it’s cinematic release and it really gave me a disproportioned view of what porno can be as it is filmed on location in New York with a proper theatre, real entertainers, actual show tunes were written and performed on a stage just for this movie. Ok the script isn’t great but the film holds a general air of class and elegance. This is naturally aided greatly by the goddess body and sophisticated mature beauty of Kay Parker.
On Broadway, sleazy producers and talent scouts use their power to lure young hopeful girls in sexual acts. In great desperation, Bobby Astyr’s character uses it to pump a nerdy but sexy brunette (Unknown name) in his office and later get a blowjob from a blonde character. The blonde also begins the film by blowing R Bolla (producer) in the audience at a rehearsal session. The blowjobs alright but she is not much to look at. She’s a thirty something of average looks who smokes too much of too many things.
With cat claws fiercely sharpened, Beth Ann goes into a rage when she sees Susaye trying out. She wants to cut her immediately. We soon learn her reasons stem from a past romance between the two. A flashback of Beth seducing and fucking her in the dressing room begins. Beth Ann is a very hot dark haired, medium build, medium tits vixen. She probably has a Puerto Rican background but she doesn’t look so indigenous as to put people off. She is an aggressive, sexy leader in her sexual encounters who loves to suck all over. This scene plays a very sweet, sentimental, pipe and piano tune which made my heart melt a little. It’s also shot very intimately with close ups of 69’s, white divine supple breasts being sucked and cherished. Susaye is a sweet receiver who doesn’t do much work but is very forthcoming and loving with her curvy body.
Soon after Bobby Astyr tries to promote a large blonde stripper to the chorus line, Mona arrives and begins by asking Joey to cut Susaye from the show. Needless to say, Beth Ann is behind it. Sidney (Joey Silvera) remains adamant about Susaye’s selection and escorts her back to her apartment where they fall in love and make passionate, sensual love. It’s a decent scene which is mainly penetration. Sasaye’s curvy, white body and innocence is the star.
At the opening party., Mona (Kay Parker) plays the old Diva, lapping it up with confidence and sexiness. The rich financial backer of the show is played by Bobby Hollander. Mr Hollander can’t act to save his life although he looks the part in a suit. He is wooed to support the show based on the idea of Mona Randall making a comeback. He is eager to get a return on his investment by sleeping with her as he declares to Mona herself. Kay looks unbeatable as always, especially as the prize, toffee lady.
The lighting is good and the scene is cut nicely to take in all the best parts on great angles. Once again sweet music plays. I really like this scene. It was one of my favourites for more than 20 years although it would be hard to convince some people why. It’s shot in a hotel room where he supplies her with champagne and eventually comes between her breasts and on her lips.
While this is going on, we also witness two people who can actually act now fucking, R Bolla and the below average looking blond, Darby Loyd Rains. From some angles, Darby looks quite ugly but this is a fine hardcore scene where she gives her all, bringing an impressive knowledge and know how. The eroticism will take you by surprise.
Now it’s time for the 70’s falling in love as you wander around town having fun like children scene. Kay and Bobby take in all the superficial sights of New York such as Empire State, central park and so on. But the fact is, this scene does really push my sentimental buttons as there is a great empowering romantic tune playing and Kay looks so beautiful in very fashionable, slightly yuppie clothing. They actually do look like they were having fun wandering around town.
Ok, so this review is getting long, I’ll have to squeeze the most important bit in. The best scene follows with Beth Ann, Kay and Joey in a backstage orgy. Kay sits at her dressing table looking all the goddess when she offers her body to Beth Ann as a favour. The movement, love and sexuality is magical like a ballet. Joey joins in a later. I won’t say too much as to why this scene is a definite 5 star but I will tell you that it’s one of the best scenes ever made. Watch it and see why.
Finishing off a great flick in style, a young well built Latino boy recalls making love to his nymph step mother played by the sexy, assertive, forty something, redhead Monica Devon. Monica’s body, attractiveness and sexual prowess are remarkable. This priceless scene is a boys dream come true. The film as a whole, 9 out of 10.
