Either you love Ed or you hate him, but you cannot doubt that the sex that goes down on his sheets is the real deal. The thing is real does not mean it's erotic. It is what it is.
I picked this volume to comment on because a couple interesting girls are in here. A girl named Dynasty went on to make a handful of films in the Black genre - in fact, a couple Booty Talk volumes, which was a hot property back then. Good looking girl, and you get to see the rawest aspect of young woman's journey through porn - the way they are so naive and passive, and i find myself half wanting to stop them.
There is a girl named Omu'nique, who also had a short ride through black porn afterwards. Her name is among the strangest ever, and since the industry can misspell "Mary", they had a grand old time slaughtering this name. Good luck finding her vids on search engines. I think it's supposed to be Om'Unique, to sound like "I'm Unique" Many times, a girl may have just thought up the name just before the cameras roll on a Dirty Debs shoot. Anyway this girl is real young looking, and has an untrimmed nappy bush. She also does anal and if i recall, did asswork in a lot of her later scenes. I wouldn't even call either girl a pornstar in the true sense. They followed that path of so many that hit their 18th birthday and stumble into a Hollywood agent's office looking for easy money on their looks, and it takes a while for it to hit them that this isn't their cup of tea.
Then, there is Athena. My goodness. A real diamond in the rough. She even says this is her only shoot, because she wants some quick bucks to pay bills. Ed does what I've seen him do frequently: Ask the girls if they are sure this is what they want to do. He does not go as in depth as I've seen him do in others, perhaps he doesn't want to risk not being able to get his hands on this beauty. But her casual attitude about fucking for bucks, and doing it ON CAMERA is amazing to me. I'm sure she can't imagine these images lasting some 10, 15, hell, 25 years later, or resurfacing if a friend of a neighbor's cousin recognizes her as she runs for public office.
But I'm a mental case - what do I care? Right now ( or back then when I first saw this) I get to see as raw and as real a sexual reaction as possible, as Ed lays tongue and dick too this girl. Her breathing, facial expressions and response to his efforts to make her at ease are priceless, and exactly the kind of experience that makes a Ed Powers fan a fan for life. I've watched a good, geeez, a third of Ed's tapes? Naw, I stopped a few years ago - Hell, I watched enough to know that maybe one in ten volumes might yield a girl, or a moment like here with Athena that is almost surreal in this virtuosity. It has enriched and matured my outlook of sex, and I posted this review after finding this tape while cleaning out my stash. I look a quick and "oh yeah" .... recalled this girl and the way I reacted even back then when it was new. Let me be clear -- the sex itself is nothing spectacular. The magic is in the girl, a rare glimpse at a girl that is now a woman out there somewhere either regretting or remembering fondly a carnal dalliance. Wouldn't it be a trip if you pass someone in a mall, or go to meet a co-worker's wife and BAM! There is one of these babes? I would never out her, of course, but it would be a blast just to know. Too bad there isn't an outlet to have these legions of ex- extras, the ones that skirted the perimeter of porn, to tell their stories, and I don't mean only from the "I was a victim" angle.
A couple other girls are in here. The one named Honey will forever be confused in search engines because Honey is an overused nickname. This series is probably discounted in many shops, but not by much. That's how popular Ed's lines are. It's like trying to find a $5 Beatles album after 40 years. Most merchants recognize Ed's staying power. Some stuff is just timeless.
